Abadal is a family-owned winery founded by Valentí Roqueta in 1983 at Masia Roqueta, Santa Maria d’Horta d’Avinyó, in Catalonia’s Bages region. The Roqueta family has lived at this 12th-century estate for more than 30 generations, with a winemaking tradition dating back over eight centuries. Vineyards lie on stony clay and limestone terraces surrounded by Mediterranean forest, and are managed with regenerative and integrated practices, including plant cover and mulching. Abadal is dedicated to recovering local varieties such as Picapoll, Mandó and Sumoll, combining traditional methods with modern winemaking. Its historic cellars preserve rancio wines in chestnut and oak bocois, including barrels dating from around 1870, while projects such as Paisatges 1883 explore the region’s ancestral winemaking heritage.
