A Hungarian PGI for eligible vineyard land in the same 27 municipalities as Tokaj PDO, with its own wine rules.
Furmint, Hárslevelű and other permitted white varieties
White wines may range from dry to sweet. The PGI name alone does not specify sweetness.
Furmint, Hárslevelű, Kövérszőlő or Olasz rizling
A separately specified category made from naturally frozen grapes.
Since the 2014 harvest specification, Zemplén is limited to class I and II vineyard-cadastre land in the 27 named municipalities. The older county-wide definition and 85% grape-origin rule are superseded. It is a distinct designation from Tokaj PDO and is not a village or a subzone of it.
