About Contea di Sclafani DOC

Catarratto white

White

Catarratto.

Citrus, pear and herbs with a dry, textured palate. Riserva can bring a more developed feel.

Native red blend

Red

Nero d’Avola and Perricone.

Dark cherry, berries and spice with a savoury, firmly shaped finish. Either grape can take the lead.

Where it grows: In the elevated inland vineyard country around Valledolmo, Sclafani Bagni and neighbouring central-northern areas.

Also labelled Valledolmo–Contea di Sclafani, today’s DOC focuses on Catarratto whites and Nero d’Avola or Perricone reds. Older bottles may reflect the broader range allowed before the rules changed in 2017.
