Upper Hunter Valley is a registered Hunter subregion with Chardonnay among its local wine expressions.
Stone-fruit flavours and freshness, with oak adding texture in some examples.
The registered Upper Hunter Valley subregion is more precise than using upper Hunter as an informal compass direction. It shares the Hunter region with Pokolbin and Broke Fordwich. Local producer Two Rivers describes its vineyard beside the Hunter and Goulburn rivers near Denman and includes Chardonnay in its range. Comparing the stated vineyard and GI helps distinguish local fruit from a winery’s wines sourced elsewhere.
