Hunter is the registered region within the wider Hunter Valley zone, home to Semillon, Shiraz and Chardonnay.
Fresh citrus and a taut palate in youth, with toast-like complexity possible after bottle ageing.
Syrah.
Red and dark berries with spice and supple tannins.
The names Hunter and Hunter Valley are often used loosely, but the register gives them different geographical roles. Hunter is a region; Broke Fordwich, Pokolbin and Upper Hunter Valley are its registered subregions. Semillon offers a citrus-led white-wine starting point, while Shiraz brings a savoury red counterpart and Chardonnay a range of textures. A precise GI or vineyard name helps narrow the origin within this varied landscape.
