About Ribeira Sacra DO

Where it grows

Along the Miño, Sil and associated river valleys across parts of Lugo and Ourense in inland Galicia.

Ribeira Sacra DO is divided into five subzones, including Amandi, Chantada and Quiroga-Bibei, rather than one continuous slope with uniform soils. Mencía offers the best-known red introduction, while Godello and other local whites add another view. Many vineyards occupy steep terraces, though site conditions vary. The spectacular landscape is part of the appeal; a named vineyard, subzone and producer help explain the wine more precisely.
