About Tasmania

Tasmania wines explore Australia’s cool southern edge, where long summer days and maritime conditions suit Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and traditional-method sparkling wine. Tamar Valley and nearby Pipers River introduce the north, while Coal River Valley and Derwent Valley offer contrasting vineyard journeys around Hobart. The East Coast adds sheltered sites beside a dramatic coastal landscape. These local area names help explain Tasmania’s diversity, although Tasmania itself is the registered wine geographical indication. Sparkling blends, precise still whites and fragrant reds can all share that island origin. Compare the stated vineyard area and producer’s methods to discover the differences between northern valleys, southern river country and the east coast, rather than expecting every Tasmanian wine to taste alike.
