Montsant explores the partnership of Garnatxa and Carinyena, with expressive reds shaped by a varied ring of vineyard hills.
Grenache, Carignan.
Ripe cherry, dark berries and Mediterranean herbs with a dry, structured palate.
Grenache Blanc, Macabeo.
Pear, citrus and herbal notes with a rounded texture and fresh finish.
Montsant DO is a separate appellation from Priorat DOQ. Its vineyards occupy a varied landscape of limestone, clay, granite and slate settings, so it is misleading to describe the whole denomination as slate country. Garnatxa and Carinyena lead the red-wine story, with cooler and warmer sites bringing different balances of fragrance, ripeness and structure. White Garnatxa and Macabeu offer another route into the region. Compare a named village or estate to explore the differences within the DO.
