Friuli-Venezia Giulia wines reflect Italy’s northeastern meeting point with Slovenia, Austria and the Adriatic. Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio offer inviting white-wine discoveries, while Refosco, Schioppettino, Pignolo and Merlot reveal a compelling red-wine side. Explore the marl-and-sandstone hills of Collio and Friuli Colli Orientali, the gravelly plains of Friuli Grave and Isonzo, or the limestone Karst near Trieste for Vitovska and Terrano. Sweet Picolit and Ramandolo, the Friulano-led Rosazzo blend and the shared Lison origin add more focused stories. Skin-contact whites are another regional tradition, but their amber colour describes winemaking rather than sweetness.
