Pokolbin offers a focused view of Hunter wine, from citrus-led Semillon to textured Chardonnay and Shiraz.
Citrus-led freshness with texture and bottle-age development varying by site and producer.
Syrah.
Berry fruit with spice and structure, within the broader Hunter red-wine tradition.
Pokolbin is a registered subregion, alongside Broke Fordwich and Upper Hunter Valley. Vineyard evidence gives a closer view than the familiar visitor destination alone: Keith Tulloch documents Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz at its Field of Mars and other Pokolbin sites. Sandy alluvial ground and clay-rich slopes both feature in those accounts. The precise vineyard and bottle origin matter when a producer also sources grapes outside Pokolbin.
