Abruzzo wine country stretches from Italy’s Adriatic coast towards the Apennines, linking sunlit hills with high inland valleys. Montepulciano gives the region its generous reds and cherry-coloured Cerasuolo rosés, while Trebbiano, Pecorino and Passerina open a lively white-wine trail. Explore the Teramo hills through Colline Teramane, the small Tullum origin around Tollo, or Villamagna’s focused red wines near Chieti. Coastal breezes, elevation and the shelter of the mountains create varied growing conditions across the region. Montepulciano here is a grape, distinct from the Tuscan town of the same name. Older bottles also preserve a changing map of local IGT names; their guides explain the historical labels alongside today’s DOC and DOCG wines.
