Founded in 1890 by the Artacho family and Rafael Carreras, Bodegas Riojanas is rooted in Cenicero, Rioja, where it combines local tradition with modern winemaking. The publicly listed company remains approximately 60% owned by the founders’ descendants, the Frías Artacho and Artacho Nieto families. Its clay-limestone vineyards are farmed with organic viticulture noted in the estate information, while selected plots use sustainable practices and meticulous manual harvesting. The winery’s wines, including Monte Real, Viña Albina and Gran Albina, emphasize Rioja character and personality, with ageing according to Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva categories. Its history includes technological upgrades such as stainless-steel tanks and temperature-controlled fermentation, while the long-time winemaker Felipe Nalda Frías helped shape its style. Bodegas Riojanas also has projects in Toro, Rueda and Rías Baixas.
