Wente Vineyards is a fifth-generation, family-owned producer in California’s Livermore Valley, founded in 1883 and widely described as the longest continuously family-owned and operated winery in the United States. The family helped shape California wine through early varietal labeling, opening a dedicated tasting room in 1968, and Ernest Wente’s 1912 Chardonnay plantings that led to the influential Wente Clone. Wente farms estate vineyards in Livermore Valley and Arroyo Seco and is certified by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance, with practices including regenerative farming, no-till, cover crops, integrated pest management, site-specific irrigation, and lighter-weight bottles. Alongside its broader portfolio, Wente also produces limited-production, handcrafted wines through its nth DEGREE and Artist Series programs.
