Producer

Kono Wines

New Zealand

Kono Wines is a Māori-owned, family-run producer based in Nelson and associated with Wakatū Incorporation, a collectively owned Māori organisation. Its vertically integrated operations span farming, harvesting, processing and marketing, with vineyards and orchards across Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough. The wines include Sauvignon Blanc sourced from all three Marlborough sub-regions, as well as Pinot Gris from Kono’s own Nelson vineyard and Awatere Valley wines. Kono’s approach is guided by kaitiakitanga—guardianship of the land—and an intergenerational commitment to practices its ancestors would recognise and future generations can be proud of. Its sustainability philosophy is holistic; no organic or biodynamic certification is cited.
