Quinta da Pellada is a family-owned estate in Portugal’s Dão region, inherited by Álvaro de Castro in 1980 and now co-managed with his daughter, Maria Castro. The small-scale operation works sustainably grown, 70+-year-old vines across three vineyards, planted on granitic soils with sand, clay and quartz at around 550 metres. Its wines follow a low-intervention, terroir-driven philosophy, often using field blends of approximately 47 indigenous varieties. Traditional practices include extended ageing in French oak and battonage, while the wines are vegan and minimally intervened.
