Weingut Werlitsch is a family-owned estate in southern Styria, Austria, run by the Tscheppe family and led by Ewald Tscheppe, who took over at age 26. Working steep vineyards on Opok marl soils, the domaine is certified biodynamic and follows Demeter principles, with most vineyard work done by hand. In the cellar, the approach is minimal intervention: native-yeast fermentations, slow pressing, extended aging in large barrels and Austrian foudres, and bottling unfiltered with minimal sulfur. The estate focuses on Sauvignon Blanc, Morillon, and Welschriesling, with a clear commitment to sustainable viticulture and site-sensitive winemaking.
