Castello di Luzzano is a Fugazza family estate on the border between Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna, encompassing vineyards in the Colli Piacentini and Oltrepò Pavese. Its winemaking tradition reaches back to Roman times, while the modern Castello di Luzzano brand was developed by sisters Giovannella and Maria Giulia Fugazza from 1980. The estate bottles only wines made from its own grapes, harvesting and vinifying individual vineyards separately. It has followed an integrated organic-farming programme for over twenty years, with reduced inputs and grass cover beneath every row; grapes are predominantly hand-harvested. Distinct soils at Luzzano and Romito shape contrasting styles, from structured, age-worthy reds and fresh, persistent whites to softer, fruitier wines. Malvasia di Candia Aromatica and Pinot Nero are particular specialities.
