Family-run in Pünderich on the Mosel, Weingut Matthias Lay has a winemaking tradition dating to 1870 and is operated by Christian and Corinna Lay. The estate farms vineyards on both sides of the river, including steep sites in the Pündericher Marienburg that require painstaking handwork. Riesling is the traditional focus, alongside Weißburgunder, Rivaner, Dornfelder, and Spätburgunder. A member of ECOVIN since 1990, the winery presents itself as organic and emphasizes sustainability through manual cultivation, soil protection, and flowering wild herbs between the rows to support biodiversity. Grapes are handled gently and the wines are carefully matured in a modern Mosel style: light, lively, and refreshing. The winery also offers direct sales, tastings by appointment, and a seasonal wine tavern.
