Monemvasia Winery

Greece

Founded in 1997 by George and Elli Tsimbidis, Monemvasia Winery is a family-owned estate in Laconia, Peloponnese, now involving the next generation. Its organically farmed vineyards are cultivated by hand with low yields, focusing on rare local varieties including Monemvasia, Kydonitsa, Asproudi and Mavroudi. The winery’s defining project is the revival of the historic Monemvasia-Malvasia wine, supported by research into native grapes, traditional vinification and collaborations with agricultural institutions; the wine received PDO recognition in 2010. Production combines this heritage-driven approach with modern facilities completed in 2020, while red and white wines age in oak and bottle. The estate’s wines express the local terroir and its commitment to researching and bringing overlooked Greek varieties back to prominence.
