Producer

Il Mortellito

Italy

Il Mortellito is a family-run producer in Sicily’s Val di Noto, with vineyards in the Bufalefi, Maccari and Cozzo Tronzo areas. Rooted in an original family plot, the estate is led by Dario together with family and friends, with a clear focus on wines that reflect the natural character of their territory rather than passing styles. Farming is organic, using traditional alberello and trellised training, natural fertilizers, no pesticides, and hand harvesting. In the cellar, Dario follows a low-intervention approach: spontaneous fermentations with no added yeasts, no ageing in wood, and only minimal sulfur at bottling to preserve the identity of the grape and place. The wines are shaped by both light limestone-clay soils and darker calcareous, organic-rich soils.
