Mudèfer

Spain

Mudèfer is made by Celler La Botera in Batea, Terra Alta, Catalonia, from old, low-yielding vineyards cultivated on natural terraces at 400–550 metres. The calcareous, deep and permeable “panal” soils, dry climate and surrounding forests shape the site, while low-intervention viticulture requires almost no phytosanitary treatments; no organic or biodynamic certification is noted. The wine blends 75% Carignan with 25% Grenache, fermented at controlled temperature and aged for 8–10 months in French and American barrels. It reflects the winery’s focus on indigenous varieties and calcareous terroir.
