Gump Hof

Italy

Gump Hof is a family-run estate in Alto Adige’s southern Eisack Valley, owned by the Prackwieser family for over 200 years, with records dating back to 1546. Markus Prackwieser took over from his father Johann in 2000 and runs the winery with an open, experimental mindset shaped by exchanges with other growers and study trips to regions such as Wachau, Burgundy, and the Loire. The estate works steep southwest-facing hillside vineyards with close-to-nature, labor-intensive manual farming and grows typical local varieties. Its calcareous moraine and gravel soils over Bozen quartz porphyry, together with alternating winds from Lake Garda and the Dolomites, are noted for giving the wines freshness and complexity. Grapes are vinified in-house, and the cellar is carved into the rock.
