Witwe Dr. H. Thanisch

Germany

Witwe Dr. H. Thanisch is an 11th-generation, family-owned estate in Germany’s Mosel, cultivating steep, manually tended Riesling vineyards on slate across Bernkastel Doctor, Graben, Lay and Badstube. Ownership has passed through women for four generations and the estate is currently led by Sofia Thanisch, with Christina Thanisch and Maximilian Ferger sharing winemaking responsibilities. Sustainability is reflected in rainwater collection, photovoltaic electricity generation and heat-insulating storage facilities. The wines express the character of steep Mosel sites and their slate soils.
