La Raia

Italy

La Raia is a family-run estate in the Gavi hills of Piedmont, owned and operated by the Rossi Cairo family since 2002. Its biodynamic, Demeter-certified farming is centred on biodiversity and soil vitality across vineyards, woods, pastures, fields and lakes. Cortese and Barbera are cultivated on calcareous-clay soils using Guyot training, cover crops, natural sulfur and copper treatments, and careful hand-harvesting based on vineyard-specific ripeness. Indigenous yeasts and a chemical-free approach guide the winemaking. The estate’s winery incorporates traditional raw-earth pisé construction, while the wider project includes hospitality and the Fondazione La Raia, which brings contemporary art and reflection on the Gavi landscape into the property.
