Producer

José Gil

Spain

José Gil is a small, family-run Rioja project owned and operated by husband-and-wife winemakers José Gil and Vicky Fernández. They work approximately 5–6 hectares of old, bush-trained vineyards in and around San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Labastida and Briones, including limestone-rich slopes. The vines are hand-harvested and farmed manually without herbicides or pesticides, using an organic-style, low-intervention approach, though the estate is not formally certified. José leads the winemaking, while Vicky manages the vineyards and production. With only around 3,600 bottles produced in 2022, the wines reflect a highly personal and artisanal scale.
