Impar Wines

Portugal

Impar Wines, commercially operating as Ímpar Wines, is based in Fronteira, Portalegre, in the Alto Alentejo. Its Terra d’Alter project was founded in 2004 by António Borges, José Roquette and winemaker Peter Bright, and acquired by Ímpar – Vinhas & Vinhos in 2021. The winery combines traditional vinification and indigenous Alentejo varieties with modern technology and barrel ageing. Vineyards in the Serra de São Mamede-influenced Alto Alentejo benefit from higher altitudes, hot dry summers and varied granite, schist and clay-limestone soils. The company works with local growers through grape-purchase agreements and aims to acquire its own vineyards. It reports WASMP/PSVA sustainability certification, including a 20% reduction in water use and energy self-sufficiency through a solar initiative. José Manuel Reis is also identified as a winemaker, bringing an academic, methodical approach to consistency.
