Herdade da Calada is a historic, family-owned estate in the heart of Alentejo, founded in 1854 by descendants of the Duke of Lencastre. Its vineyards lie in dark Mediterranean soils within a broad rural property near Évora, alongside olive groves and traditional Alentejo landscapes. The estate produces sparkling, white, rosé, red, and sweet or fortified wines, as well as olive oil, and welcomes visitors for enotourism and rural accommodation. Winemaking includes gravity-fed grape transport without pumps, a technique intended to preserve fruit integrity. The estate combines its historic setting and welcoming, intimate hospitality with a modern winery, with Pedro involved in winemaking and Mark Zimmerman serving as Senior Sommelier.
