Do Ferreiro

Spain

Do Ferreiro is a third-generation, family-owned winery in the Salnés sub-zone of Rías Baixas, run by Gerardo Méndez and his children Manuel and Encarna. The family works with more than 175 tiny, hand-managed Albariño plots, including approximately 14 hectares they own, on decomposed granite (sabrego) soils. Farming is organic, with pergola trellising and chickens used for pest control; fermentations rely on native yeasts. Low-yield production includes distinctive single-vineyard releases made in very limited quantities, reflecting a hands-on approach to Albariño and the varied character of its vineyards.
