High Garden Vineyard

New Zealand

High Garden Vineyard is in Gibbston, Central Otago’s coolest sub-region, on a high, north-facing site with schist soils over glacial loess. Owned by Master of Wine Robin Tedder, with viticulture led by Gary Crabbe and winemaking shared with Jennifer Parr, it is hand-tended and dry-farmed with no irrigation. Farming focuses on regenerative, organic/biodynamic principles, including no-till cultivation, cover crops, native flower strips and seaweed-based soil treatments. The vineyard was planted in 2001 and produces a single wine from low yields. Winemaking is deliberately minimal-intervention, with extended skin contact, slow malo in French barriques, and the wine bottled unfined, unfiltered and vegan.
