Elmie is a boutique rosé project based in Stellenbosch, founded in 2014 by husband and wife Etienne and Lizanda Terblanche. Etienne holds a Master’s in Viticulture and Oenology from Montpellier SupAgro and a PhD in Pinotage from Stellenbosch University, while Lizanda manages the business. The project focuses on elegant, vibrant rosé that presents Pinotage in an unconventional style, working with small parcels from granitic Stellenbosch sites. Its vineyards include heritage dryland Pinotage planted in 1974 on the Helderberg and vines planted in 1980 on the high slopes of Simonsberg. The wine is named for Elmie Terblanche-Smith, whose joie de vivre and creativity inspired the project.
