Domaine de la Verpaille

France

Domaine de la Verpaille is a fifth-generation family estate in Viré, at the heart of the Viré-Clessé cru in southern Burgundy, passed down since 1880 and now run by Philippe Baptiste and Estelle. Its limestone and clay-limestone vineyards have been farmed organically since 2006, with compost, ploughing, natural grass cover and limited sulphur and copper. Primarily focused on Chardonnay, the domaine produces Viré-Clessé wines from individual climats, alongside Bourgogne, Mâcon-Villages and sparkling wines. Traditional, low-intervention winemaking includes indigenous-yeast fermentation without chaptalisation, ageing on fine lees and maturation in demi-muids and older French barrels. The wines are intended to express their terroirs with elegance, richness, freshness and aromatic purity.
