Casa de Santa Eufémia

Portugal

Founded in 1864 by Bernardo Rodrigues de Carvalho, Casa de Santa Eufémia is a family-owned estate in Parada do Bispo, on the left bank of the Douro between Peso da Régua and Pinhão. Now managed by successive generations of the Carvalho family, it farms schist-terraced vineyards in the Baixo Corgo and produces both Port and DOC Douro wines. The range includes Tawny, Ruby, White, Colheita, LBV and Vintage Ports, alongside red and white table wines. Integrated production and sustainable agriculture are practised, with older vines planted on terraces. Traditional methods are combined with controlled-temperature maceration, fermentation stopped with grape brandy, and ageing in old casks and French oak half-pipes.
