Bodegas Madai is a tiny family-run estate in Cacabelos, Bierzo, managed by brothers Gonzalo and Daniel Amigo, who oversee the winemaking themselves. Its vineyards lie at 600 metres on steep granite slopes, with old, head-trained vines that are dry-farmed, hand-tended and cultivated without sprays; no formal sustainability certification is noted. The estate grows Mencía and Godello, with an extremely limited annual release of approximately 12,000 bottles of 100% Godello. This hands-on approach, old-vine material and very small production define Madai’s artisanal character.
