Ata Rangi

New Zealand

Ata Rangi is a family-owned Martinborough estate in Wairarapa, founded in 1980 by Clive Paton and still run by the Paton family. Known especially for Pinot Noir, it combines long family continuity with a strong environmental focus: all vineyards were fully organically certified in 2014, the estate follows BioGro Organic standards, and it uses practices such as hand pruning, under-vine weeding, mixed cultivation, shelterbelts, wildflower planting, and on-site compost tea, alongside solar power supplying over a third of its electricity. Alison Paton heads day-to-day operations, Helen Masters leads the winemaking, and Ian Ewart manages the vineyards.
