Albino Piona

Italy

Family-owned Albino Piona has made wine in Veneto’s Custoza area since 1893 and is now managed by the Piona family’s fourth generation. Its vineyards lie on the morainic hills south of Lake Garda, across Sommacampagna, Valeggio, Sona, and Villafranca, producing the region’s classic Custoza DOC and Bardolino DOC alongside specialties such as Verde Piona. The winery follows a short supply-chain model, with harvesting, winemaking, and finished-wine storage carried out at its Palazzina di Prabiano facility in Villafranca. The family emphasizes respect for the environment, natural methods, and careful investment in modern equipment, without reported organic or biodynamic certification. In the cellar, oak is used sparingly, with attention instead given to the ageing of wines marked by elegance and longevity.
