Stadt Krems

Stadt Krems is a municipally owned winery in Krems, Niederösterreich, with vineyards within the city limits and in neighboring Stein. The estate traces its history to 1452 and is operated by winemaker Fritz Miesbauer with Peter Rethaller. Its sites include steep Danube-facing terraces on primary rock soils as well as terraced loess parcels. Farming is certified sustainable by Lacon and Nachhaltig Austria, with an emphasis on biodiversity and the avoidance of herbicides and insecticides. The winery focuses on a compact range of wines that combines the estate’s historic roots with a modern, sustainability-minded approach.
