San Leonardo is a historic, family-owned estate in Trentino’s Vallagarina, where the Guerrieri Gonzaga family has been rooted since the 18th century. Once a monastery and for three centuries the family’s residence, the estate is protected by the Trentino mountains and influenced by breezes from Lake Garda. Its vineyards, planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Merlot, are organically managed and have been certified since 2018; the estate also holds Friend of Biodiversity and Equalitas sustainability certifications. Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga leads the winemaking with consulting enologist Carlo Ferrini and estate director Luigi Tinelli. Spontaneous fermentation in concrete vats and extended barrique ageing support wines described as fresh, harmonious and naturally elegant. The annual Arte a San Leonardo project further connects the estate’s history and craftsmanship with contemporary artists.
