Raíz de Guzmán is a small, family-run winery in Roa, Ribera del Duero, owned by Cayetana Santos, who is also involved in winemaking and runs the Páramo de Guzmán cheese brand. Its vineyards are managed with a natural, respectful approach, avoiding chemical products and herbicides, with low yields and manual harvesting. Planted at high altitude across selected parcels, the vineyards benefit from marked day-night temperature shifts and clay-and-gravel soils, supporting freshness, aromatic complexity and structure. Oenologist Mapi Melado pursues wines with measured extraction, elegance and complexity while adapting to a changing climate and preference for lighter styles. Winemaking includes cold maceration and maturation in Bordeaux, Burgundy and larger-format oak barrels. Tradition and craftsmanship extend to the estate’s artisanal cheese and underground aging tunnel.
