Rainbow's End

South Africa

Rainbow’s End is a family-owned boutique estate in Stellenbosch’s Banghoek Ward, owned by Jacques Malan since 1978. Its vineyards lie on high, mountainous slopes with varied red, oakleaf soils and stone fractions, conditions the family considers particularly suited to quality red wines, including Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Shiraz. The estate made its first wine in 2002 and specializes in estate-produced reds. Winemaking, led by Anton Malan with Francois, Jana and Jacques Malan, focuses on expressing each vintage’s terroir rather than following a fixed Old World or New World style. Grapes are hand-harvested, carefully sorted and gently processed, with fermentation in open vats, French-oak maturation and bottling without fining or filtration. Family members also manage the estate’s infrastructure and label design.
