Outpost Wines is based high on Howell Mountain in Angwin, Napa Valley, where its vineyards sit above the fog on rocky, volcanic-derived soils. Established in 1998, the estate has a history of grape growing reaching back to the 1860s and is now owned by AXA Millésimes, following the Dotzler family’s stewardship. Sustainable farming includes a Carbon Farm Plan, livestock for vegetation management, and efforts to increase biodiversity. The wines are made with hand-harvested grapes, fermented by block, and carefully blended to express the site’s intensity and distinctive spicy character. Consultant winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown and the team guide the wines’ natural development; they are neither fined nor filtered. Outpost offers a reservation-only tasting experience in a peaceful mountain setting.
