France

Jean-Michel Stephan is a family-owned Northern Rhône domaine founded in 1991, where Jean-Michel and his son Romain craft elusive, naturally made wines. The estate farms Serine, Syrah and Viognier, including Côte-Rôtie vineyards rooted in metamorphic mica-schist soils. Certified organic since 1995 and biodynamic since 1997, it works with hand-harvested grapes, organic fertilizers, lunar-calendar practices, whole-cluster fermentation and indigenous yeasts, with no added sulfites. The domaine specializes in traditional Côte-Rôtie blends, including a Syrah–Viognier cuvée, and has more than 30 vintages of experience.
