Franco Conterno

Italy

Franco Conterno is a multigenerational family winery based at Cascina Sciulun in Bussia, Monforte d’Alba, at the heart of Piedmont’s Langhe. Franco took over in 1995 with his wife Vilma, and their sons Daniele and Andrea are now involved in the estate. The family farms vineyards in Monforte d’Alba, Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Novello and Madonna di Como, including old Nebbiolo vines in Bussia reserved for Barolo Bussia Riserva. Since 2015, the vineyards have been organically certified, with no synthetic chemicals or GMOs; cover crops, animal fertilizer, copper and sulfur support a natural approach. Winemaking combines modern technology with tradition, including native fermentations and aging in casks, tonneaux and barriques according to the wine. The range includes classic Piedmont varieties and a Nebbiolo-based traditional-method sparkling wine aged on lees for at least 40 months.
