Founded by Jesuit monks in 1857, Château Ksara is Lebanon’s oldest and largest winery, located in the Bekaa Valley. Privatized in 1973, it is now owned by a consortium of Lebanese businessmen led by Jean-Pierre Sara, with Zafer and Kamil Chaoui among the co-owners. Winemaking is overseen by cellar master James Palgé, managing director Charles Ghostne, and oenologists Noël Rabot and Elie Maamari. The winery controls approximately 300 hectares of vineyards and produces wines including the Reserve du Couvent. Its sustainability efforts include IWCA Silver membership, solar power, renewable energy from agricultural waste, lighter bottles, and recycling half of its wastewater, supported by a tertiary filtration system.
