ZARATE is a historic family estate in the Salnés Valley of Rías Baixas, Galicia, with roots dating back to 1707 and a long role in shaping modern Albariño. Today it is owned and run by Eulogio Pomares and Rebeca Montero, who also oversee the winemaking. The family farms estate vineyards, including old and ungrafted vines, with many parcels under no-till since 1994, permanent natural cover, and no herbicides. Since 2000, viticulture has also been described as organic and biodynamic, avoiding synthetic fertilizers, using herbal infusions, and working with minimal sulfur. Certified for Integrated Production since 2006, ZARATE focuses on environmentally respectful farming and preserving local viticultural heritage. The wines center on fresh, balanced, elegant Albariño, alongside small amounts of traditional Galician reds and recovered native red varieties.
