Founded in 1898 by Salvatore Contini and Anna Maria Dessì, Contini is Sardinia’s oldest winery, based in Cabras in the Sinis peninsula. Still family-led through four generations, it preserves its historic barrel room while continuing to evolve, with a new winery inaugurated in 2022. The estate manages vineyards across distinctive Sardinian terroirs, including the Sinis, Tirso Valley, Monte Arci, Gallura, Sennori and Barbagia, with sustainable farming noted in Sennori. Its wines focus on native varieties such as Vernaccia di Oristano, Cannonau, Vermentino and Nieddera, expressing the island’s soils, sea breezes and cultural heritage. Contini has played a significant role in promoting Vernaccia di Oristano, which became Sardinia’s first DOC in 1971, and offers tastings and experiences centred on the territory and its wines.
