Italy

Abbadia Ardenga is a historic, small-scale winery in Montalcino, Tuscany, owned by the Società di Esecutori di Pie Disposizioni Onlus, a charitable organization dating to the 13th century. Proceeds support social and cultural initiatives. A founding member of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium (1967), it focuses on Sangiovese, producing about 42,000 bottles annually of Brunello, Rosso di Montalcino, and Vin Santo from 12 hectares of vineyards. The estate includes 8 hectares of olive groves farmed without pesticides, yielding extra virgin olive oil. It operates a museum winery with over a thousand cataloged historical tools, offering tours and direct sales for over 25 years. Managed for decades by Mario Ciacci, former director of the Brunello Consortium, the winery emphasizes tradition, quality, and a connection to its ancient terroir along the Via Francigena.
