Weingut Sutter is a family-owned estate in Hohenwarth, in Austria’s Weinviertel, run by Leopold and Doris Sutter with their daughter Victoria. With a history reaching back over 350 years, the winery combines tradition with a nature-close approach to viticulture and winemaking. Vineyard work is largely manual, with careful pruning, foliage management, yield regulation and hand selection at harvest; herbicides, insecticides and artificial fertilizers are avoided. The estate has been certified Sustainable Austria and Vegan since 2020. In the cellar, Leopold favors patience, natural gravity and gentle handling without pumps. Wines are shaped by the region’s loess, clay and gravel soils, including distinctive single vineyards focused particularly on Grüner Veltliner and Roter Veltliner, alongside Pinot Noir. A cellar renovation is underway to improve sustainable resource management for the future.
