Masseto

Italy

Masseto is a single-vineyard Merlot from the Masseto hill in Bolgheri, Tuscany, produced under Ornellaia e Masseto and owned by the Frescobaldi family. Founded by Lodovico Antinori in 1981, the estate later passed through Robert Mondavi ownership before becoming fully Frescobaldi-owned in 2005. Its vines have been farmed organically since 2012, reflecting a clear sustainability focus, though no formal certification is noted. The wine’s identity was shaped by consultant oenologist André Tchelistcheff, who first recognized the site’s potential, while Michel Rolland helped modernize its Bordeaux-inspired style.
