J.G. Benda is a tiny, owner-operated estate in Montalcino, Tuscany, run by former London banker John Gregory Benda and his partner Zoë. Certified organic and practicing biodynamic farming, the vineyard is worked entirely by hand, with rainwater collected for cleaning and no electricity or mains water used on the property. Benda is also the artisanal winemaker, producing a very small, handcrafted wine from 100% Sangiovese. The grapes are destemmed, fermented with native yeasts and aged for 20 months in French and Slavonian oak, reflecting a hands-on, low-intervention approach rooted in the estate’s distinctive self-sufficient practices.
