Caves São João is a historic, family-run winery in Portugal’s Bairrada region, founded by the Costa brothers in 1920 and still owned and managed by the Costa family. The estate includes 35 hectares of vineyards and extensive underground cellars. Combining tradition with innovation, the winery began producing sparkling wines in the 1930s and later developed bottled wines for national and international markets. Its Quinta do Poço do Lobo vineyards, acquired in 1971, supported experimentation while preserving the classic profile of its wines. French enologist Gaston Mainousson contributed to its early sparkling production, while Luiz Costa is associated with award-winning cuvées.
